About the Event
This launch brings together the editorial team and contributing authors for an in-depth conversation about the issue’s key themes, research findings, and critical perspectives. The publication addresses the structural mechanisms through which antigypsyism shapes academic knowledge production, institutional practices, and public narratives. By challenging entrenched biases and highlighting Romani contributions to European history, culture, and scholarship, the issue calls for a more equitable and inclusive academic framework.
The thematic issue builds on insights from the International Conference “Racism and Romani Studies” (September 14–15, 2023), organized by ERIAC in collaboration with the Intercultural Institute of Timișoara and West University of Timișoara. It aims to strengthen academic discourse on racism and provide tools for transforming the field through reflexivity, accountability, and community-centered research.
