In 2007 the Intercultural Institute of Timisoara organised the 11th Congress of the organisation Association pour la Recherche Interculturelle (ARIC), gathering in Timisoara over 150 researchers from Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia. The Congress was entitled: Territories, Limits, Crossings. Interculturality in Movement and allowed the presentation of researches from diverse disciplines such as: psychology, sociology, linguistics, education, anthropology, law, etc.
The ARIC Congress is organised every two years and 2007 in was only the second time it took place outside the western francophone area. The program included, among conferences and symposiums focused on intercultural research from the perspective of various disciplines, events that allowed participants to learn about cultural diversity in Romania, about the policies regarding national minorities and the actions to promote interculturality. It also facilitated networking among researchers and opportunities to establish future partnerships.
ARIC is an international organisation established in 1984 with the aim to galvanise intercultural research, to facilitate international exchanges between researchers, to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and to establish better links between theory and practice. Initiated by a group of researchers from Belgium, France, Quebec and Switzerland, the Association comprises now members from Europe, Africa, North and South America and Asia.
