The Digital Civic Incubator is an ambitious initiative, supported by the Intercultural Institute of Timișoara, Techsoup Association, and the School of Values, aiming to transform the Romanian education system. By training over 4,500 teachers and implementing innovative programs in 30 schools, the project, funded by Fondation Botnar, equips young people with the skills necessary to become active and responsible digital citizens.
Our goal is to provide teachers with the tools to cultivate essential digital and civic competencies in students for the 21st century.
What do we do?
- Train teachers: We offer free online and blended courses for over 4,500 teachers, covering both general aspects of digital citizenship education and specialized topics such as social studies and ICT.
- Transform schools: We implement an innovative approach in 30 schools, involving the entire school community in practical activities relevant to real life.
- Promote change: We launch a public campaign to highlight the importance of digital citizenship and influence educational policies in this area.
Why is it important? Today’s youth face a complex digital world full of challenges. Through the Digital Civic Incubator, we aim to:
- Empower young people: To help them understand and use technology responsibly and critically.
- Promote dialogue: To stimulate constructive discussions on topics such as misinformation, hate speech, and online privacy.
- Build communities: To cultivate a school culture based on cooperation, respect, and democratic values.
The Digital Civic Incubator runs from September 1, 2023, to August 31, 2026, and is funded by Foundation Botnar.
